Well,I gave in and joined Pinterest.I had seen several of my friends using it and looked at it a few times,but ended up joining it for a style contest.I can now say I am addicted!It reminds me of etsy treasuries,but in a way it's much better,cause you can use links and photos from wherever you like. :)I like it a lot...it's kinda what I've been looking for,and is easier for me than blogging..it's like a link and photo blog in pins and boards.haha

Snowflake Ornaments!

A week and half ago,I went to a ladies ornament exchange.I made my own ornament,like I usually do,and came up with this snowflake design.

(My mom ended up with my ornament..funny story.haha.)
So I took pictures of it,and listed some as made to order on etsy.It says it will be one to three business days before they are shipped out,but depending on how many orders I have to work on,it should just be one day.You can also request Priority mail for faster shipping.If you buy several things,this is a great option,as I can fit a lot in a small flat rate box. :)

Some Pretty Music I Love

I love music sooo much,and often have 8 tabs open to just youtube when I'm online.Finding new (to me!) songs and artists make me very happy.I thought I would share a few amazing songs I recently discovered.

"A Fine Frenzy" is so good.I had heard of it a while back,but never checked out their music till a month or so ago.

The song "Edelweiss" is not new to me at all,as "The Sound of Music" has been a favorite since I was a child,but the band "The Honey Trees" is.I suggest the song "Love and Loss",also.(This song always reminds me of the small white kitten I named after it when I was eight. )

I've loved Christina Perri for quite a while,and her new song for "Breaking Dawn" is so sweet.Even if you dislike that book and movie series,this song is worth a listen.The music video is beautiful,too.I love her gown,and all those candles makes me want to fill a big empty room with tea lights!

New House

It's been so long since I've blogged!
We did eventually find a place,and it's in the same town,which I was very happy about.We had to wait a while for the paperwork to go through,so we stayed at a friend's house until it was done.

But once I moved in,I found out we weren't able to get internet!Turns out Qwest only has so many phone lines for this area,and someone got my place for DSL in the two weeks I didn't have it.

So I ordered Earthlink,and finally got it yesterday.I used a neighbor's computer every 3 or so days to check on etsy.I felt bad about not being able to reply quicker to people's convo's,but I did the best I could. :)
I'm sooo glad to have internet again,not just for my business,but to get back in touch with many of my friends who I only communicate with online or in person.Being without a computer for a few weeks made me realize I should get a few more phone numbers!

I made quite a few earrings during that time,15 pairs,I think.As well as a few hair things.I'm planning on making lots more.I should have taken pictures several days ago,cause the weather turned nasty and is not good for taking photographs.Hopefully I'll get some sun soon so I can get pictures and list them all.

A Little Life Update

The giveaway ended a little over a week ago.Thank you to everyone who entered and gave feedback!Keep an eye open for my next,cause I'm pretty sure I'll do at least one more this year.

On a side note,I've been really stressed out cause we still haven't found a place to live.We have 20 days left to find a place and pack unless there is some way we can stay here a little longer.We found a few good places,and one was like perfect and we really thought we were going to get it,but it fell through. :/ I check craigslist like every few hours,and the newspaper weekly.I'm really not sure how all of this is going to work...*sigh*

Ok,onto something more cheerful!This weekend I went,with my mom,to a women's Aglow retreat...my first one.It was out at the Sis-Q Meadows ranch,and I went there when I was 10 for a church kids camp thing.It was sooo beautiful!The air was amazing..like mountain and beach air combined..seriously.There was a swimming hole,a river,and a pond.The cabins were really nice.So were the women there!Lots of hugs and prayers and talking,which I love.Of course. :) haha.I made some new friends there.
I tried sleeping outside for a bit the second night,since it was so pretty out,but it got too cold and around 4 am,I went back inside.But before I even tried to go to sleep,I laid down on the grass and looked at the big starry sky and watched some deer and fawns that were 15 feet away.When I finally did go to bed,under the oak tree where we had laid our cots,I saw two shooting stars. :) (We being my mom and one of the new friends).
It was nice to get out of the house and get my mind off the whole moving business.
I may post some pictures I took later when I have time...maybe share a bit more about the retreat with it,too. :)

Our moving date has been extended one month!We will be moving out October first.Still have to find a place,but this way is a lot less stressful.So the shop will not be put on vacation till sometime in September.Though I will probably still be putting some items on clearance.I'm going to be making and listing lots more items soon,or at least that is my plan.lol.I will most likely be doing a giveaway this month,too,so keep your eyes open for when I announce it!:)

How Odd...

I was looking at a seller's feedback on etsy,and it said 94% positive.So I looked for the negative feedback on her feedback,and there wasn't any.Puzzled,I checked the feedback she has left for others(either when she bought something,or someone bought something from her).....and..a negative she had left for someone was being subtracted from her seller feedback!I don't think that's right,and am hoping it's some kind of glitch,or etsy will change the way feedback is done...
I don't think everyone looks at the feedback page when choosing to buy from a seller,just the numbers and percentage.If I have 100% feedback as a seller,but unfortunately have to leave negative feedback for someone else,then that would make my total feedback not 100% positive???That's not fair.

I have been making slow progress on the coral rayon dress.These pictures are from last month,when I got most of the top done,and was pinning lace on it to see what it would look like.The skirt has not been sewn at all yet,I only pinned it to the bodice.I have taken a break from sewing the lace appliques for right now cause I am sewing a cotton maxi dress.I decided I needed to get that dress done sooner,but hopefully I will be back to sewing lace with tiny stitches onto that beautiful fabric.And of course I will be posting about the new dress I'm making once more progress has been made and I take pictures.

A Random Post About What's Going On in My Life Right Now

This is just a post about some of the things going on in my life for the present.

~I got an external hard drive!I'm pretty excited about that,since I've been needing one for a long time.I got even got down to less than a GB of space left on my computer. O_O Not good!So now I can take pictures and videos without having to worry for a while.

~My 17th birthday is coming up soon...on May 13! (I was born on a Friday the 13th,by the way..LOL.I found a calender from that year laying around our house,and it said on that date "Wear your hard hat!" *head/desk* hahaha).For some reason,I've been kinda more excited about being 17 than 16.I'm not quite where or who I thought i would be in some ways,but in other areas I am,or more.

~I found out that i really like finding people on youtube singing their own original songs,and whatnot.I just love hearing people sing the songs they have written themselves,they just seem to sing so much better somehow.

~And I keep getting the itch to sew dresses.lol,and I'm not even done with my first dress yet!I have the top part almost done,and I'll be blogging about it soon with pictures.I found some neat vintage material to make a top and dress out of for summer.So many dresses,so little time! :)

~I'm thinking about doing a random 20 or so things post about me sometime.Would you like that?

Thoughts About My Blogs

As you have probably noticed,I've been taking a bit of a break from blogging on all of my blogs.Just living life.Thinking.Sorting through emotions.Hanging out with friends.Thinking about what direction I should go with my blogs,which ones to keep or focus on.
I wrote in a New Year's post that got deleted somehow that I want to be more real in my blogs.Talk some more about things that are important to me.But I've been trying to think of the right way to do this,what to talk about on each blog that I have.I sorta think of my "Life Is More Than Beads" blog as my "crafty,etsy blog".And then of course "Jenny's Wedding Dresses" is a wedding/fashion blog.And "Like the Gold",a wordpress blog,was for my photography.But now that I've finally decided on a photography name, "Look for the Light Photography",I've set up a different wordpress blog for that.So I was thinking of using the "Like the Gold" blog as my more personal blog.That would make a total of....*drum-roll please!*...4 blogs.Not quite sure if I can keep up with all of that.I'm just not quite sure about sharing a lot of things on this blog.I mean,I would share some things on here,but I'm just not sure if this is the right place to put it,or if i should have it on another blog.

Any thoughts,perhaps from some fellow bloggers?

I have been working on this dress for quite a long time(since last summer),but haven't gotten very far on it.I tend to work on a lot of different projects at once.But I hope to have it done by the end of February,or at least by Spring.I have 2 other dresses I want to make by my birthday,which is in May,so getting it done as soon as possible would be great.
It's a soft flowing rayon,a very pretty pink coral color.I'm sewing it with the cream thread cause i wanted to.lol.
All hand stitching,lots of tiny stitches.Which i get faster at as i do more.I'm sewing it a certain way so you don't see any seams for most of the dress.
It's going to be empire waist,and I think I will make it with pockets.
I'll add more pics as I make progress on it. :)

I recently cut prices even more on most of my Branch earrings.At first they were $30,then $27,and today i decided to mark them down to $25.I'm trying to find the perfect sweet spot for pricing them.I know everyone's budget is different,and that price would be too much for some,hardly anything for some,and just right for others.But we'll see how it goes.I don't like fluctuating prices very much.

Introducing my Friend's Shop - berrycrafty

I wanted to put in a few good words for my friend Kathy.I met her at church a while back,and she had with her some of the most beautiful polymer clay jewelry i've ever seen.We became friends,and since a few of her other friends had been encouraging her to sell on etsy,I helped her set up shop.Her last name is Berry,thus the reason why part of her shop name is berry.I think it's a cute name.She makes pendants,hair barrettes,butterfly magnets,keychains,and even some beads!I've seen some earrings,too,which should be up sometime.

A Bit of a Shop Update

I've been taking so many pictures you would think I'm sick of it,but...nope!I'll take a one or two day break,and then take 100-500 pictures.haha.
One of the things I've been photography the most,besides the outdoors,is jewelry and hair things for my shop.I've been replacing lots of photos,and I think I'm almost done.
I've been wanting to get pictures of me or someone modeling some of my earrings,since I think people would like to see it on someone.I had just bought a bunch of gold clip-on earrings,since my ears aren't pierced.So I finally took pictures of me wearing some earrings on the clip-ons..Not very many pairs,only three.I was going to get more,but I was freezing!Anyone else agree that it's time for winter to be done?At least the sun came out yesterday and today.Makes me feel like spring is right around the corner,which it is.
I'll be getting more pictures of me wearing earrings later,and when i look better,too!lol.
What do you think?Do you like to see it on a person before buying?

Photography Name?

I thought I had figured out a name for my photography business.I needed a name for if I decided to go pro someday,and also so I would put a watermark on my photos.And to use for my photography blog,which i will be moving some things from my likethegold blog over to the new one once I decide.I had decided on "An Old Fashioned Girl's Photography".There's a bit of a story behind that.But then the name "Look for the Light Photography" popped into my head,and I think i might like it better.There's some stories behind choosing that name,too.Hmm...
They're both kinda long,but I seem to like long names.lol
I would love some feedback.Which do you like better?

Boy oh boy,have I been busy.Not quite too busy,though almost pushing that.

One of my friends let me borrow her camera,and I took at least 2,000 photos while I had it.I learned a lot of things,like learning how to shoot in manual.It was fun.I also got to do a photo-shoot with a friend.I'll be putting up pictures from that up on my new blog.

I think I finally have figured out my photogrpahy name,and I reserved a blog name for it on wordpress.It's "An Old Fashioned Girl's Photography".I have another wordpress blog,which was for my photogrpahy,but I didn't know what name I wanted,so i decided to make another,since I think I know now.So I'll just start all over,which is ok.i haven't gotten very far on the other blog.

And the giveaway ended a few days ago.I've been so busy i just remembered!Wow.lol

How to Make a Button For Anything and Put it On Your Blog

Long title,isn't it?Ok,so I recently discovered how to make a button that I can put on my blog,and people can click on it and go look at my necklace on the Fire Mountain Gem website.
A lot of how I found out how to make one came from this post.But I found a bit of it confusing and decided to write my own.

1.First of all,what you're to do is find a picture you want to use for the button.What you want it to be will depend on whether you are going to make a button for your blog,your website,a picture,or whatever.
The size of the image should be no more than 150px wide,usually,so that you won't have a problem with the edges of it being cut off.But if you have more space and know how much wider to make it,then you can make it bigger.Mine is 150 x 150.I used picnik.com to crop and size my pic,then used the "create" page to add text.Save it to your computer(don't forget to add .jpg at the end of the file name if you change the name).
Then you need to put your picture somewhere to create a link.Either photobucket or maybe flikr.I tried both of them,and for some reason that picture would not upload,so i gave up,and made a blog post with that picture.Then I could click on the photo and there would be a link for me to copy and paste.So keep that window up so you can copy and paste later.

2.Now onto the hmtl.I was having issues with the html showing up,but I googled and now i have it all figured out. :)
Here it is.Copy:

3.Once you've got that,go to your blog,and go to "Design",and then just make sure you're on "Page Elements".Find "add a gadget".Just make sure it's in the right place,though you can move page elements around later if it doesn't suit you.Then once that box pops up,go to "HTML/Javascript",and click on the plus sign.Paste the hmtl there.
Now see where it says "yourimagedirectlinkURL"?Erase that,while keeping the quotation marks.Now it's time to go to where you have your image and copy that link.Paste it there instead.
Then go your blog,or whatever webpage you're wanting to direct folks to,and put it instead of "yourblogURL",while still keeping the quotation marks as before.
Hit save,and you're done!

It has been freezing lately...seems to me like fall is already over.
We had a really hot summer and so it seems like we will have a really cold winter.lol.It even snowed some the past few days!

I very much miss some of summer and especially spring.Spring is my favorite time of the year,plus the early part of summer.Beginning of April to the end of June is heaven.
Well,I hope I don't freeze this winter!At least I know I have the promise of spring in a few months.

And I can stay holed up in my somewhat warm house and make things!I'll have to venture outside and go for walks in the woods once in a while,otherwise I'll go cabin-fever crazy.And bundle up as much as possible.

I have so many different styles and colors of hair things to make.....my head sometimes spins!There are a few of the new designs in the shop,if you want to take a look.I'll be adding many more options as I can get them done and photographed.I'm thinking pictures in the snow would be pretty neat,eh?Might as well take advantage of it.lol

My Zibbet Shop

Well,I have finally started getting cracking on my zibbet shop!Read on if you're interested in selling there,if not,just skip to the bottom for the link to the shop.

I'll be sharing as time goes by how I'm doing.And if you have any questions,feel free to ask.I may not know the answer,but I'll most certainly try. :)

I do love etsy,but I'm just not making any sales there right now,despite working on it a fair amount.So I thought it wouldn't hurt to at least try a new selling venue for a while,see how it goes.I signed up a while ago,in May.Just didn't really do anything with it.I'm not leaving etsy,by any means,but I want to try something new.I have a basic free seller account.I'm thinking of upgrading later,if it goes well,but there's still a good amount of tools without being charged.
One of the things i like most is I can import items from etsy to zibbet,edit it,and list it.That makes it sooo much easier.I don't have to remake a listing.Just deactivate on etsy,and put on zibbet.It'll be nice to hit a different market.At least,i hope and think it will. :) Or,at least,a bigger one,is more like it.

What I've Been Working On Lately

I used some of this fabric to make this hair clip,which can be bought in my shop.
I still have some of the material,and am thinking of lots of different ways to combine it with other materials,lace,maybe even some of the brown fleece.:D

A close-up of the fleece "petals".I cut out a lot of these while watching videos on youtube and such.You'd be surprised how long it takes to cut them all out!

Here you can mostly see the red/burgundy colored fleece.I've made three hair barrettes (with red crystals in the center!) in different sizes to put in the shop.Those will be up as soon as I get pictures.

Singin' the Blues,part 1

I'm going to have to do the blue beads in two parts,since there are so many different shades of pretty blue beads.Part one will be more medium and dark blues,part two will be lighter blues.And I think I will do a section with periwinkle,since there's some beads that would fit into that category.

Changin' Up the Blog

Oh boy,I almost killed my blog with messing around with designs.lol.If you looked at it in the last half hour or so,you probably noticed..it was a mess.I didn't even mean to change the whole look,I was just going to try to make the layout bigger,and then the template I tried got it all askew,and so I tried a bunch of different things,including a new background,doing some different things with the layout(which I had no idea what I was doing).Finally I found where to get my old template,Mimina,which put everything back in order.Rather liked the new background,so I'm keeping that.Then I thought I would make a new header,went over to background fairy again,got the natural linen header,did a few things to it on picnik.com,and there you go!

So now it seems like my theme colors are tan/beige,gray,and yellow.All very nice.I heard on a bridal blog that gray and yellow are really in for weddings.lol I don't think I'm going to play around with redesigning my bridal blog for a while,though.And I totally did not get a screenshot of my blog,so i could have before and after.Bummer.

Well,the real question is,how do you like it?Is it easy to read,any requests to change the text size,or anything?

Man,I sure do take a long time between posts,don't I?If I blog every week on here,I'm lucky.I think I shall abandon the schedule part that I blogged about earlier,but not the themes.I like being spontaneous too much.

So what I have been up to in the way of my etsy shop is finally listing 100 items(and over!,),and joining a team,which has been lots of fun.it's called "Team Discovery",and the main purpose is to make treasuries comprised of part team members,and new/undiscovered shops(new or undiscovered is having sold under 20 items),in hopes that they will make the front page.Already a few of them have!if you would like to find out more about it,here is the Team Discovery - Official Thread for September.I've been in many treasuries since joining.

Another thing I've been up to is natural dying.I was tea dying some tulle,and I Googled tea-dying tulle(after having put the tulle in tea,lol),and found a blog where someone used natural dyes on silk,muslin,and tulle.Here is the blog post that inspired me.
Onions and cabbage and tea, oh my!
I then boiled red cabbage,red onions(both the skin and onion part),and salt.I added a little bit of tea to it,too.There was some silk that I had for a while,so I cut a few snippets of it to try.What i didn't know is that red onions make green!So i got kinda a light green with a purplish with with those samples.With the tulle,it just made a very light green.And,of course,tulle and all synthetic fabrics will dye differently than natural materials.The other dye I tried was turmeric.And that not only made some very nice yellows,but is pretty colorfast.I dyed all of my silk fabric in that the following day.I was really nervous,but it turned out pretty nice.Now I just need some silk chiffon to dye...
I'm sorry i don't have any pictures,but I'm still camera-less.When I can,I will take pictures of both the process and the final results,and probably post a tutorial.

Well,I think that's it!And to cap it off,here are some pictures from my trip to Bend.

Denny,the horse I rode.I was so scared! I hadn't been horse-back riding in 4 years.My left leg was shaking so bad after i got on,I couldn't get it to stop till about half-way through the ride.I sang during part of it to calm myself,and my freind said Denny liked it when her mom sang to her.That was a lot of fun,real freeing for me,to sing out in the open air while riding a horse..

Back from the second horse ride.And the goat in the background,lol.I was a lot less nervous this time.Plus,Denny doens't go more than a walk.And I sag again.One of the songs was Jake Hamilton's "Watch Out Heaven".that was so funny to sing that while riding on a horse.It would have been much more dramatic if we had been trotting.

I was thinking ya,it does(lol,just being honest here),when I realized that if we don't know how wonderful He is,and since we are made in His image,we can't see how wonderful we are because of Him and His great plans for our lives.I think I've hit on something very good."

Ok,so sorry for not blogging these past weeks,I went to go visit some friends and family(pictures to come),and did not have time to blog.But I have many things to blog,including some shop features on my wedding blog.I have been seriously thinking of switching Jenny's Wedding Dresses to wordpress,but can't make up my mind.

Ok,so I'm going to combine both today's and tomorrow's post,since I will be busy tomorrow.I have a test I have to take for school,so I'll be studying for that.

My Thoughts and My Life-Bunny Rabbit

Today I'm going to share with you some photos of our new bunny rabbit.My mom and I have not had a pet for over two years since my bird died.I used to have a rabbit in Kindergarten.

It was a friends of ours,but he was like "You can have it!".Haha,he's cool like that.He has three lovebirds,a few chickens,a dog,some Guinna pigs and more rabbits,anyways.Oh,and did I mention he has a snake?

So we ended up taking her home.Her name is Pistachio,but we call her Bunny,as well.And I like to call her marshmallow.lol.She loves to lick people,it is so funny.They say that's because we taste salty.And I found out that rabbits can sleep with their eyes open!How weird is that?But I've noticed that she does sleep with her eyes open a lot of times.

These pictures are from a few weeks back,and she's a bit bigger now.

Got a bit of a sun flare going on there.I took a lot more with more sun flares.I really love sun flares.

Starting a Blogging Schedule?

Ok,so I have been thinking I may start a blogging schedule of sorts,flexible,of course,since I sometimes get random ideas that I feel need to be put out there right away.

Here is a tentative schedule for my Life Is More Than Beads blog.
Monday:My thoughts and My life-Just whatever has been going with me,I'll just write,post pictures,etc.
Tuesday:From One Person to Another-I will share something inspirational or good I found on another blog or the etsy forums,whether it be a whole blog post or just a picture.I might just share the blog for you to go check out.Or perhaps someone could guest blog?
Wednesday:Thoughts from the Book-A Bible verse,probably from Psalms,since the Psalms are so amazing.And my thoughts on it. :D
Thursday:Song Pick of the week-I will share a music video or lyrics,since I just love music.
Friday:My Corner of Creativity-I will share pictures of whatever I am working on,or items that I just listed.Maybe a tutorial,or some business advice,if I have any.
Saturday.Random or a Shop Feature-Um,whatever I want to write,maybe a poem,or just my thoughts.I may start featuring etsy shops,one a week,or an item,but we will see.I'm not sure which day to do it,though.It may just end up being any day that I choose to do that.If you have an idea as to what day would be good to have a feature,let me know.
Sunday:I will probably not be blogging on Sunday,but it depends.I may just do a cross-over from my one of one other blogs.Or maybe I'll feature a shop on this day,as well,or instead of Saturday.

As for my wedding blog,Jenny's Wedding Dresses,I have been trying to figure how to do that one.I think I will blog at least every other day.

A photo of the week,though we'll see how that goes,since you usually have to get permission.I do know of some wonderful wedding photographers,and I want to feature their work.So I may feature a photographer every once in a while,as well.Hopefully I'll get some interviews,too.:)
I will put a an outfit together,either for bridesmaid,brides,or any time.One a week.
Every other week or every two weeks do a feature/interview with an etsy bridal shop.
Every other week,or every two weeks,pick a color,(maybe two or three),and search out the prettiest items to feature for that color.
And any other random thing I love.

It will probably take me a few weeks to get into this schedule,and I may have to change it around a bit before I decide on a semi-permanent one.Right now I'm lucky if I blog twice a week,but I figure if I pick something for each day,it'll make it easier.

20 Followers!

Ok,I haven't blogged in a while,so I thought I would just post a little update.I'm also excited becasue I have 20 followers,thanks everyone! :)

I had a custom order for a bridal hair clip,and that's one thing that kept me busy. Here's a picture of it,and I'm going to call it the Joana hair clip,since that's the name of the gal who ordered it from me.

My church had a 24 HOP this weekend,so I'm very tired from that.I think after writing this I'm going to take a nap!HOP stands for hours of praise.So we had worship going on from 9 am Saturday to 9 am Sunday,then we start church at 9:30.
I didn't stay for the whole thing.I was there from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm,then from 5 pm -9 pm,went back home for an hour,then cam back and stayed till 2 am.

I worked on a prophetic painting that I started back in October.I've worked on it 5 times so far.The first was at Jesus Culture in Ashland(on Halloween,lol),the the HOP last year,then at home two more times,then at this HOP.I'll post pictures when I can.The camera that I'm borrowing is having issues,the usb part will not connect,and I have have a slot for the memory card.

Ok,I think that will have to be it for now.As for my other blog,I should be putting an interview of a seller on etsy who makes silk wedding veils,so stay tuned.

Everything Skit

A few years back,my youth group did this drama.There is so much anointing in both this song and skit.It's about how this girl has this lovely relationship with Jesus,and then different things of the world come to detract and destroy her.A boy-freind who's heart is not following God,money,jealousy,drinking,and finally,she's so broken,she's on the verge of suicide.Then she's like "I've had enough of this",and starts running back to Jesus,who has been waiting for her,and the demons try to kept her away,but of course He defeats them,and welcomes her back with extravagant love.

My lovely friend Renee directed this.And all of the amazing people in the skit:Andy,Joy,Tom,Hannah,Anastasia,Mariah,um,I forget the other guy's name.I've seen this live several times.It was so much what I was going through when I first saw it.Man,so many memories with this song.Anyways,I hope you enjoy it,and that it touches your heart with God's presence.

So here is my new blog.As time goes by,I'll let you know how I like it,and give it a bit of a review for anyone trying to decide whether to switch to WP.I think my best advice is to just start trying it.It takes a little figuring out,but then,so does blogger.When I first started blogging,I didn't even know how to cut and paste.They each have their pros and cons,that's partly why I'm keeping my other two blogs.

Update About the Fire Mountain Gem's Contest

So,I had entered the Fire Mountain Gems Metal Clay,Metal Beads,Wirework,and Chain contest a few months back.You can read a little about my entry in this blog post.
I received my necklace back two days ago.I did not win,but at least I am a finalist.

I'm thinking of entering the next contest,Pearls, Organic Beads and Kato Polyclay™,but I have less than a month to get whatever I'm going to make done.I have 7 designs rattling around in my head for it,and it's so hard to chooses which ones to do!And there has been a shortage of the tiny seed pearls I would need for a lot of the designs;they've been on back order for weeks.

And I'm still trying to get a camera.I'm using the one I began with(and that's I borrowed from a friend).I had looked at some cameras online and kinda got an idea of what I liked.
I had been thinking about the new Samsung TL 220 for a while,since both the cameras I have worked with are samsungs.Then again,they both have problems.Well,the one I'm borrowing is 6 years old,so it's a lot different from the newer cams.But it does have a different brand of lens(at least,that is what I hope),Schneider,and from what I hear,it's supposed to be a pretty good lens.And the most important part of a camera is really the lens.That's what i had problems with my other camera, a samsung S860,so their lens have not been very dependable.Nd the front screen is really what won me over. It would be very handy for taking pictures of me wearing my jewelry,so I won't end up with a pictures with funny expressions on my face,and have to crop my head off!lol I looked a the TL205 at Walmart to kinda get an idea of what the TL220 would be like.It didn't take that great of pictures,at least nor from far away.I didn't really get to play with settings,but the pictures weren't that great.But on that camera,it said Samsung lens,not a Schneider,so I don't know if the TL220 would take better photos.And the 220 does have a touchscreen,which has it's pros and cons.I've read a whole bunch of reviews on t,but I wo't really know till I've tried it.One thing someone mentioned is that the auto-flash goes off when you turn the front screen on,and they don't like that,but I actually would like very much.I hardly ever shoot with flash,and it always annoys me to have to turn it of all the time!

So after looking at that camera,I was browsing,trying to see if there's something else,and after trying nikon(which I would like a Nikon D5000..........someday,but I didn't like their point and shoots),kodak,Canon,ummm,a few others,I found the Sony cybershot W350.And I really like it!It took very nice,clear photos of a pair of my tulle earrings i had brought along.I'm not sure how it would do with other kinds of photos,but it seems to do very well with jewelry.I did read a review where it said something about not being able to take pictures of the sun?Which is rather important to me,cause I love taking pictures of the sun.

I did find 2 Canons that I liked as well.One I had seen online and liked from the beginning,an A3000-IS and SX120-IS.Unfortunately,I've read some bad reviews on the A3000,so that one may be a no.
I'm really liking the Canon PowerShot SX120IS 10MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Images Stabilized Zoom and 3-inch LCD partly because of the zoom.It'd be really good for when I take walks and want to zoom in on an animal,yet still small enough to fit in my pocket(I think).I don't remember how it did with the jewelry.I'm going back to Walmart soon,maybe today,so I'll take a look at then again.The Canon PowerShot SX20IS seems really nice as well,but it's more expensive.

So there's some of the pros and cons on the cameras I've been thinking of.I'll post more information as I get it,in case there's any more looking for a good camera for taking pictures of jewelry,though I love taking pictures of everything.hehe.It's funny,because like everywhere I go,I think,"Oh that would make a good picture","oh that's so pretty i wish I had a better camera".i really do love photography.A few years ago,I was thinking of different things I would like to do as a job,and photography popped into my head.That's kinda how I got started on the jewelry,but that was around 4 years ago.

So,any comments,suggestion,on cameras?I know everyone's preference in cameras is different,one may say that this models awful,while another says it's great,and so forth,but has anyone owned any of the models I mentioned?(Hey,how did the subject of this post end up being cameras?lol).

Lace and Beads Necklaces

I have started making necklaces with lace,since I have discovered that I really love lace!I found this really pretty cream alecon lace remnants,and started cutting them out for appliques.I am going to use some of them on a dress(with silk crepe,I think),but I started making necklaces with them and different beads,and I really like it.Since I have a limited amount of this particular lace with this pattern,I think I will only make 5 or so more.But I will be on the look out for more pretty lace to use in my necklaces.:)

Junco Babies Have Left the Nest

Well,an update on the little birds has been long overdue.So about a week ago,I had researched about when the birds would be leaving the nest,and found out that they have to "flege" first.(Hop around on the ground and flutter their wings while the parents feed them before leaving the nest).Oh boy!How were they supposed to do that at our back door?Anyways,one morning I was taking a picture of them,and ended up startling them.They hopped/half flew out of the nest everywhere!I was still in my nightgown,but no matter,I started trying to catch them right away.It was so hard,my mom and I searched in the grass for those babies for at least an hour.Finally we caught them all,but they wouldn't stay in the nest.So my mom went and got my old bird cage,and we put them in there while trying to figure out what to do.The parents had been fluttering around and trying to round up the babies the entire time.Poor parents.

My mom bent the wires of the cage on the top,hoping the parents would go in to feed them,and,after a long while,one did.She just flew in with the food,feed one,then flew back out.It took the other one longer,though.My mom said it was probably the dad.lol.Since the babies weren't quite ready to fly,for 3 days the parents feed them that way.Granted,a few times the babies flew out again,which ended up with us rounding them up.One of them flew over to this plastic container we have filled with water for the animals,perched on it,then flew a few inches over to the other side of the container,but failed at perching.I caught up with it just in time to kept it from drowning.Another time one of them flew on a tree branch,and I had to get a step-ladder,and bring it down.I felt sorry for doing that,it looked so happy sitting on the branch.That was probably the first one that left.

One by one,each of them flew out,until there was only one left.It seemed like this one may have been sick.It was probably the one that fell in the water.My mom and I went to go visit with family,and there was this thunderstorm.We had moved the cage under the porch more,but when we got home,it had died.I'm not sure if it died from fright,but it seemed likely.Either that or it was sickly.It was very sad :( I even prayed to see if it would come back to life,but it didn't.I was sad and talking to Jesus about that,with the bird in my hand,and then He showed me a picture of the bird in Heaven,saying I don't want to come back,why would I want to come back".So I just let it go.It reminded me of when my parakeet died two years ago.That little bird was like my best friend.

The other three birds are around here somewhere,I saw them yesterday.Still a bit wobbly on their toes,but flying.The parents continue to feed them.

This one is one of my favorite pictures :)

Another Baby Bird Update.

Boy,my little fuzzbutts are growing fast!Their eyes opened up a few days ago,and they are starting to look like proper birds now.I check on them a lot,since I saw a crow nearby today.The parents were scolding their heads off.I scared the crow away,and I think it was more interested in the bird food on the ground.I hope so.I almost feel like their mother!Lol.I just really love birds.I'm sure God thought of me when he made the bird.

My mom and I have discovered that a pair of juncos have built a nest on our back porch....in a basket,with an artificial plant.There are four little speckled eggs in a beautifully built nest.I finally got some pictures with a friend's borrowed camera(since mine has decided it will no longer work).

Packaging My Jewelry

Lately I have been thinking about packaging my jewelry.I didn't have to think much about it when selling in person,whoever was buying it would usually just put the jewelry they bought on,or I would put it in a little plastic bag.

So I had made a little gold organza bag I was going to use for a purchase,and thought it looked really nice,and wanted to have gift bags for everything I sell.Or almost everything.Some people don't care how it's packaged,as long as it's packed securely.(When I change it in my shop to things being sent in a gift box or bag,I will give them an option of not having one if they don't need it).

I found an old curtain made out of this ivory netting that I'm making gift bags out of,along with some unusual shiny flower patterned pink material I've for almost 7 or 8 years,cut up for something so I can hardly use it for anything,and some tulle.I'm using different colored ribbons and lace for the ties.Tulle gift bags look really amazing!Oh!and I want to make some lace gift bags as well,that would be a really beautiful way to package my jewelry.I know of some inexpensive,yet pretty lace I can use for that,I'll just have to buy it.And I'm hand-sewing each bag,which is a bit time-consuming,but enables me to practice my sewing,and be outside in the fresh air.So I'm being useful,not just sitting there ;),which is very easy to do in the country outside when it's spring.I want to make 50 of my own little bags(some bigger than others),maybe 100.Then I want to buy some gift bags from etsy,and Fire Mountains Gems.

(Unfortunately I can't post pictures of the bags right now,my camera lens broke.Which reminds me,if there's anyone out there who has a good camera,I'm looking to trade for one for some of my jewelry.)

I found these pretty little blue boxes on etsy when I used the search terms"handmade wired jewelry".I found a pretty pearl and quartz necklace,and at the bottom of the description was a link for jewelry boxes.

I think these would look absolutely amazing with strips of white tulle tied around them a into a bow on top,don't you?I love aqua/teal/turquoise colors,it's sorta my signature color.Reminds me a little bit of Tiffany's signature blue box.

In fact,I've been thinking about whether I should have a logo(never really thought about that till recently,either,but I thought it might be nice to have one),and I designed one that has a bit of that color with it,using leaves.I wanted my logo to have leaves in it,since whenever I made my cards,I would draw a border of leaves around the text.I make all of my business cards by hard,by the way.
So what do you think of this one?Do you like to see logos on pictures?

And so,how do you like your jewelry to be packaged?If it come with fancy wrappings,are you more likely to buy it?If you're a jewelry maker,I'd also like to hear how you package the jewelry you make.

A Duh Moment-Tulle Earrings!

Late one night I was going through some different fabrics to make gifts bags with,and I had some tulle.I was thinking about making some bags with the tulle,but them started cutting some up to see if I could make a tulle flower.Then I bunched the pieces up(it looked kinda like a feather that way),held it up to my hair to see if I wanted to sew it on a hairpin.Just so randomly,I held it up to one of my ears to see what that looked like,and found that I liked that!And I thought it would be so cool to make tulle earrings!
I did a quick Google search,and found that there were some tulle earrings,but not in the style I wanted to make them,or at least that I'm aware of.
So here is my first pair of tulle earrings.

They're very nice and lightweight and blow in the wind.

Here is some tulle I plan on making earrings with:sparkley purple,blue,pink,white,cream,tan,yellow............
You can kinda see in the plastic bag two pairs I have made.

I was thinking of calling them different names,like Cinderella earrings for the light blue,since that's what inspired me to make it in that color.But the earrings also remind me of butterfly wings.
Still trying to figure out pricing for them,so if you have any ideas,let me know.......They take 20-45 minutes to cut out and sew,depending on size.
I plan on putting many pairs of these earrings in my etsy shop.

Pricing Your Work

Have you ever priced your work according to a pricing formula?I haven't really until lately.There are a lot of pricing equations out there,including not having one!

Here's one from the book "How to Open and Operate a Home-Bases Craft Business"
"Pricing Equation

Here's the simple pricing equation: Materials+Overhead+Labor+Profit=Price

It's easy to arrive at a price for any item,providing you have kept good records.Let's assume you're making a product that takes two hours to per unit and that labors cost are $10 an hour.We'll further assume that your material costs and any directly related services amount to $8.50 per unit.With that small amount of information,and using the second variation of the one-third formula for calculating overhead,make the following list and calculations to determine the price to charge for each unit:

*Labor = $10/hour
*Time per unit = 2 hours = $20.00
*Material per unit = $8.50
*Overhead = $20 x 33.3% = $6.66
*Cost of manufacture = $35.16
*Profit= $35.16 x 100% = $70.32
*Price per unit = $72.32(wholesale)

If you're selling this product wholesale for $70,the retailer will mark up 100 percent and charge his customers $139.95.This equation works as well for a $10 item as for a $1,000 item."

I believe this is the way most stores price their items,though one of my friend's store was 25% consignment,but I'm not sure what their mark-up was for the rest.I think it was the same.

Here's my price for a pair of regular Branch earrings made with colored wire and seed beads using this formula~

*Labor= $20/hour
*Time per unit= 45 minutes= $15
*Material per unit= $1.50
*Overhead= $15 x 33.3% =$4.99
*Cost of manufacture= $21.29
*Profit= $21.29 x 100% =$42.98
*Price per unit= $42.98(wholesale)

Final retail price =$85.96!!
They're on etsy for $30 per pair of earrings.I don't even think I could charge $42.98,the "wholesale" price for them.

My mom had told me "Materials x 2 + Labor x 2" to get your retail price.Let's try
that equation:

*Materials = $1.50 x 2 = $3.00
*Labor = $15
*Wholesale = $18
Retail = $36

A little better.Closer to what I'm selling them for,anyways.It look like some folks could use that equation.

I'm working on trying to figure out my own way to price so that I will make enough while my customers can still buy and I can at least put them in a store with a 35% mark-up,or at retail price.

$20 an hour is what I need to make,but some items I only pay myself $8 an hour because it took 8 hours to make,and maybe I used more expensive materials in it.I usually try to balance more expensive materials with a simpler design,so that my labor cost is down.So if my labor cost is down,my material cost will be up,and visa-versa.

This whole thing about pricing started up(again),when I was trying to figure out what my prices would be for Branch earrings with 14kt gold-filled or sterling silver wire and earwires with freshwater seed pearls would be.I currently charge $33 for the craft wire and pearl Branch earrings.

I finally got to make my fist Treasury!Last night I was looking at the lists wondering if they would expire in time since I didn't want to wait all night!They didn't,so I just went to bed.
This afternoon,I went to check my emails and decided to take a look at the treasury list,and it was at 339!So I waited,and then it was open.Named my list,then went through some of my favorites to put in this Treasury.It was so hard to choose!I wish I could have featured more.Oh,well,some other time.

Silver Roses-A Beading Contest Saga-Part 1

Two years ago I had entered the 2008 Fire Mountain Gems beading contest,my first contest.Here is a picture of the piece.I did not win anything,but I was a finalist.

So this year I decided that I was going to enter again,in the wirework section again.But the FMG contest is a bit different this time,it got so big that they had to assign different categories for separate pats of the year.Like the Wirework/Artclay/chain contest entries were open for about 3-4 months,then the Glass and Seed Beads one opens.

Anyway,so I had a design I was thinking of using.I had "accidentally" come up with this design,and I quite like it.Not that it isn't difficult;it's probably one of the hardest and most time consuming I've done do far,but it's worth it.The handmade chain takes me about 45 minutes,and the pendant took me around 3 hours.Of course,I will get a little faster as I make more.

So I thought that I would use this design,but with bigger and more pendants and a handmade clasp.I have to give credit to the owner of my local bead shop about making a handmade clasp.Her wesite is:

It took me over thirty hours to make this necklace.I used my nice silver color wire that I use for EVERYTHING,faceted pearls,and a few sterling silver stardust beads.

I got quite stressed out about it because I got sick a week before the contest deadline was,and I was leaving to go with my youth group to Jesus Culture the same day i had to get it in..But I got it finished just in the nick of time,and then.....oh-no.The CD-ROM I was going to put the pictures on didn't work for some reason,and I couldn't find any others.But my mom called the people at FMG and asked if there was any way we could email it,and they said yes.Which was amazing,because they say you can't do that.So glad they broke the rules for me.Plus,my mom took it to the office to show them when she dropped off the entrance packet(I was long gone on my way to Redding).We did that the last time,too.

Today I got a letter in the mail from Fire Mountain Gems.I was so scared I didn't want to open it.But I did.And I'm a finalist!And they want me to share my success story,which I'm not sure I have one,but I think I'll submit it just the same.After all,there aren't very many my age doing what I do.

I will be sending in the necklace soon fro the final,and the we will find out if I win one of the many prizes.

First Flowers of Spring.

Making Gluten-Free Bagels

Well,since I have a gluten intolerance,I cannot eat a lot of bread products.Yesterday one of my friends gave me a wheat and gluten-free Pamala's Bread Mix.So today I decided I would try it,with much apprehension,since our oven's thermostat seems to be broken and often burns everything.
With this in mind,I decided to try bagels,since they're smaller,and have a less chance of burning.

I mixed the bread mix,canned coconut milk,some almond milk,eggs,a banana,melted Smart Balance since we're out of oil,yeast,and I think that it's it.I wasn't too sure how it would turn out since I mixed most of it before reading directions......I have a habit of doing that.

Then the blobs of batter go into the oven to rise for an hour.
After that,boil a pot of water,and FOLLOW the directions to poke a hole in the round slabs of dough,and then drop them into the pot for 25 seconds.It always fascinates me to see the dough pop back up to the surface.Remove with a slotted spoon,and place back on the greased cookie sheet.
Back into the oven.When I start to smell them,I open the oven and the bagels are getting done on the bottom.Turn the oven back off for 5 minutes(this is how I have to do it so it doesn't burn),and then back on.

Off and on for the next half hour,leave them in the warm oven for a little longer(not on),then they're done!I went into the kitchen to find my mom already eating one.They're slightly burned on the bottom,but then,I was expecting that.

So,here's to eating food that tastes pretty good,and does not make you sick,goodnight.

Feeling Like Spring......................!

I love springtime,in fact,it is my favorite time of, the year.Nothing rivals it!If you love Spring,you know what I am talking about.
Well,even though it is February,it's sunny out,and I love it!It makes me feel SO much better!

And I'm going to be taking lots of pictures outside.Those are the best kinds of pictures.I just got finished taking some of myself with direct sunlight.Some of the effects are really cool,some.....a little frightening!

Well,I better be off,I have some pictures of jewelry to take.

New Year!

Wow,I can't quite believe it's finally here.2011.
What a year this past year has been!I'm sure most of you can agree with me on that.I've gone a long way.Some things I thought would happen did,and some didn't.I learned a lot,not just about business and taking pictures,but about Jesus,people and relationships,myself,and so much more.
I went for a lot of things I was afraid of doing and experienced some break-through.Some things I have yet to see the end result.I have some new wonderful friends,too.I can't really imagine my life without them.
I like to,instead of resolutions,make myself goals i can work on throughout the whole year.Some of them are from last year,and that's ok.And also write down some dreams and things I want to do,and tell God,I'd love to do these,can you make it happen?If it comes my way,I will do it.Some of the things have happened.
Here are some of my goals and dreams for this year.And feel free to share any of yours,too!

To even more believe in the dreams God has given me.There's been a lot of discouragement lately,as i'm sure there has been for a lot of people.Whether or not you think God gave them to you,your dreams are very important.They are important to him,too,whether you know that,or not.Sometimes we think God is into killing our dreams.haha.Not really.There are some things we want to do that would just be disasters if we pursued them,so He of course wouldn't those dreams to come true.Though sometimes dreams that are good seem like disasters at time,cause going after them can be really hard at times,or even most of the time.

To share my heart and be more real on my blog/s.
This can be really scary for me.I'll be like,hmm,would someone even want to read it?But then I think,if it helps even just one person,then that's what i set out to do.And it's ok if you're not into blogs that do that.We're all different.But I really love reading blogs were people are honest and real.I find it very encouraging,and often times i am going through something someone else is at the same time.

To not let fears hold me back.Learn more when it's the enemy trying to scare me,or God's warning me.

Work on my etsy shop more than before.List more items,make more things,etc.Hopefully this is the year where I really start selling.

Learn even more about photography.I finally got my own camera for Christmas(ya!Thank you to my brother and sis).It is a simple point and shoot,but it does the job.And I like to see how creative I can get with limitations.But I do have dreams of getting a Panasonic sometime.The DMC-FZ40,to be more exact.It's like my one of my friend's,but has 24x zoom,and 14.1 MP.Pretty sweet.And having a Canon would be awesome as well.That's one of my dreams,to have 3 or 4 cameras all at the same time.So if one was not working,I would have the others.And each camera does different things.Especially with light.it's interesting to see how each lens translates light.There'll be different color lens flares,and how it filters out sunlight,etc.And i would love to have a DSLR someday.There's a lens I love,very expensive,but man,how it captures tiny details.It's the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM 1-to-1 Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras,and it's about $900.If you want to see the photos it can take,click here.

I want to try some new things,of course.One of them is ice skating.I have never gone ice skating.I keep day-dreaming about it.Once my sis-in-law offered to take me,but i was chicken.I wish i had said yes.I want to learn how to do spins and such on the ice,but i think first I better learn how not to fall over!lol.But I'm not going to let that keep me from dreaming.

I want to finish sewing my first dress,and also make my first silk dress.To learn lots of things about sewing and dress-making.Who knows,maybe even sell a few?Depends on how well I do.

And dance more.And sing when I am afraid to.And to not be afraid to reach out and love someone,even a stranger.I used to do that more..and the ones already around me.

So many things,i can't even begin to list them all.I really feel this is going to be a great year.So,what do you have planned? :D
